A NEW ERA OF LIPID MANAGEMENT KEY UPDATES AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE 2026 ACC/AHA DYSLIPIDEMIA GUIDELINES

Upon completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:

1. Compare the 2026 ACC/AHA dyslipidemia risk classification framework with the 2018 guideline framework.

2. Identify newly statin-eligible patient populations and the implications for primary prevention management.

3. Explain the clinical significance and application of lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and apolipoprotein B (apoB) testing.

4. Evaluate the expanded role of nonstatin lipid-lowering therapies in achieving guideline-directed lipid targets.

5. Determine appropriate selection and sequencing strategies for nonstatin lipid-lowering therapies.

Upon completion of this activity, technicians will be able to:

1. Describe key changes in the 2026 ACC/AHA dyslipidemia guideline.

2. Identify commonly used statin and nonstatin lipid-lowering medications and their roles in dyslipidemia management.

3. Recognize patient populations that may require more intensive lipid-lowering therapy based on updated guideline

recommendations.

4. Explain the significance of lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and apolipoprotein B (apoB) testing in cardiovascular risk assessment

5. Identify medication access, adherence, and monitoring considerations associated with nonstatin lipid-lowering therapies.
