A 2023 IMMUNIZATION UPDATE: CHANGES TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON IMMUNIZATION PRACTICES (ACIP) IMMUNIZATION SCHEDULES

Upon completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:

1. Discuss how often the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the governing body who updates adult and child immunization schedules, meets to make changes to recommendations 

2. Decide if PCV20 is appropriate for adults who have received PCV13 but have not completed their vaccine series 

3. Decide if PCV20 is needed for adults 65 or older who have completed a vaccine series with both PCV13 and PPSV23 

4. Help parents remember to vaccinate their eligible children with an appropriate pneumococcal vaccine, including PCV15 

5. Compare and contrast PreHEVbrio and other hepatitis B vaccines 

Upon completion of this activity, pharmacy technicians will be able to: 

1. Discuss the changes made to the ACIP 2022 immunization schedules 

2. Help the pharmacist identify patients who may be eligible for their pneumococcal vaccine 

3. Utilize the CDC adult and child vaccine assessment tools to guide vaccine recommendations to the pharmacist 

4. List the different options available for patients requesting a hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) series
