CAN GLUCAGON-LIKE PEPTIDE-1 RECEPTOR AGONISTS DISRUPT ALCOHOL USE DISORDER?

Upon completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
1. Evaluate the proposed mechanisms of action for GLP-1 receptor agonists and treatment of alcohol use
disorder.
2. Analyze current evidence evaluating the effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists on alcohol cravings and
alcohol consumption.
3. Identify potential clinical implications of GLP-1 receptor agonists in patients with alcohol use disorder.
4. Compare currently available pharmacologic treatment options for alcohol use disorder.
5. Describe the pathophysiology and diagnostic criteria of alcohol use disorder.
Upon completion of this activity, technicians will be able to:
1. Describe the current FDA-approved uses of GLP-1 receptor agonists in clinical practice.
2. Identify FDA approved medications commonly used in the treatment of alcohol use disorder.
3. Recognize emerging research involving GLP-1 receptor agonists and alcohol use disorder.
