Upon completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
1. Analyze the relationship between receptor binding affinities and the adverse effect profiles of antipsychotics
2. Outline the most prevalent side effects and their clinical treatments regarding antipsychotic usage with special emphasis on movement disorders
3. Demonstrate how to conduct the Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS)
4. Compare the advantages and disadvantages of antipsychotics based on their adverse effect profiles
5. Develop a treatment algorithm for the management of common antipsychotic adverse effects and movement disorders
Upon completion of this activity, pharmacy technicians will be able to:
1. Identify most prominent causative agents of medication based movement disorders.
2. Review and recognize various adverse effects of antipsychotics
3. Differentiate between the unique characteristics of movement disorders
4. Recognize the common treatments for movement disorders
5. Apply knowledge learned to patient scenarios involving movement disorders and their corresponding referral/treatment considerations
