THE ABCDE’S OF HEPATITIS
PREVENTION: FOCUS ON VACCINES

Upon completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
1. Describe the epidemiology, transmission routes, and clinical consequences of hepatitis A–E, with
emphasis on vaccine-preventable types.
2. Compare and contrast available hepatitis vaccines, including indications, dosing schedules,
contraindications, storage, and administration requirements.
3. Develop patient-specific vaccination strategies using ACIP recommendations to prevent viral hepatitis
and address common barriers to vaccine uptake.
Upon completion of this activity, technicians will be able to:
1. Identify the vaccine products used for preventing hepatitis A and B.
2. Describe proper storage, handling, and documentation requirements for hepatitis vaccines.
3. Assist the pharmacist in preparing and supporting hepatitis vaccination workflows, including screening
forms and patient communication.
