Upon completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
1. Identify the primary reason for changes in pneumococcal vaccine recommendations in patients 65 years of age or older.
2. Define shared clinical decision making when considering immunization with human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) and the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13).
3. Given a patient case, determine which vaccines are routinely recommended according to the 2020 Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended adult immunization schedule.
Upon completion of this activity, pharmacy technicians will be able to:
1. Differentiate between the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine and the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine.
2. Identify an age at which human papillomavirus and pneumococcal vaccines are routinely recommended.
3. Describe how the pharmacy technician may increase adult immunization coverage rates.
