Upon completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
1. Describe current treatment recommendations for venous thromboembolism (VTE) and atrial fibrillation (AF).
2. Review the 2016 guidance from the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) on direct
oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in patients with severe obesity.
3. Recognize the strengths and limitations of current literature for the use of DOACs in patients with severe
obesity and AF or VTE.
Upon completion of this activity, pharmacy technicians will be able to:
1. Identify current treatment recommendations for venous thromboembolism (VTE) and atrial fibrillation (AF).
2. Recall the 2016 guidance from the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) on direct oral
anticoagulants (DOACs) in patients with severe obesity.
3. List the strengths and limitations of current literature for the use of DOACs in patients with severe obesity
and with AF or VTE.
